Privacy Policy

Summary

Neither app requires an account, and neither uploads your recordings, screenshots or anything else. Recording, capture, editing, rendering and export all happen locally on your Mac. Your projects, exports and settings are files on your own disk, under your control.

Neither app embeds third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share personal information for advertising purposes.

Who this covers

This policy applies to:

ScreenFlowy for macOS — the screen recorder and editor.
ScreenFlowy Snap for macOS — the menu bar screenshot app.
screenflowy.com — this website.

It does not cover the Mac App Store itself, or any third-party service you choose to send an exported file to.

What we do not collect

The apps do not collect, transmit or store on our servers:

Your screen recordings, screenshots, webcam video or audio.
The contents of any window, document or application you capture.
Text recognised on screen by the on-device text recognition feature.
Your name, email address, contacts, location or device identifiers.
Usage analytics, event streams, session replays or advertising identifiers.

There is no login, and no account to create. We have no server-side record of you using the apps.

The Mac App Store versions of both apps never contact our servers. Only a copy of ScreenFlowy distributed outside the App Store checks updates.screenflowy.com from time to time for a newer version. That request carries no personal information; the server sees only your IP address, as any website you visit would.

What stays on your Mac

The apps write several kinds of data to your own disk so that they can work. None of it leaves your Mac unless you move it yourself.

Diagnostic log	A local record of what the app did, used to troubleshoot problems. It is never sent automatically; we only see it if you attach it to an email to us.	The app's own data folder.

Text recognition in ScreenFlowy Snap, including the automatic detection of emails, links, phone numbers, tokens, card numbers and ID numbers for redaction, runs on device using Apple's Vision framework. The recognised text is used to place the redaction and is not transmitted.

macOS permissions

macOS asks your permission before the apps can capture anything. Each permission is requested only for the feature that needs it, and you can revoke any of them at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on macOS 14) — both apps need it to capture the screen, a window or a region; ScreenFlowy also uses it for system audio.
Camera — ScreenFlowy only, when you turn on webcam recording.
Microphone — ScreenFlowy only, when you turn on voice recording.
Input Monitoring (optional) — ScreenFlowy uses it only while a recording is running, to record the keys you press for the keystroke overlay. Without it, recording and the automatic camera moves work as usual; the video just shows no keystrokes. Key data is written into your local project, not transmitted.
Accessibility (optional) — needed only by the Scroll down button in ScreenFlowy Snap's scrolling capture: each click scrolls the page you are capturing down one step. Scrolling with your mouse or trackpad works without it.
Files & Folders — used when you open or save a project, import media, or choose an export destination.

Denying a permission disables the corresponding feature; it does not prevent the rest of the app from working.

Purchases and the App Store

The apps are distributed through the Mac App Store. Any purchase, subscription or refund is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. We never see your payment details. Apple may provide us with aggregate, non-identifying sales and crash statistics through App Store Connect; that reporting is controlled by Apple and by your own Apple device settings for sharing analytics with developers. ScreenFlowy Pro is an in-app purchase handled by Apple in the same way; the app only asks Apple's StoreKit whether you have bought it.

When you use a Share or Copy action, macOS hands the exported file to the destination you picked — Mail, Messages, a third-party app, or the clipboard. From that moment the file is governed by that service's own privacy policy. We are not a party to that transfer and have no visibility into it.

Data you send us

If you email support, we receive whatever you put in that email — your email address, your message, and any screenshots, logs or sample files you choose to attach. We use it only to answer you.

Please redact anything sensitive before attaching a recording or a log. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to resolve the issue and to keep a record of the conversation, and you can ask us to delete it.

Retention and deletion

Because your content stays on your Mac, deleting it is entirely in your hands: delete the project or exported file, use the app's own history and cache controls to clear stored items, or remove the app's Application Support folder. Uninstalling an app removes its bundle; files you saved elsewhere are yours to remove.

For support correspondence, write to us and we will delete it on request, subject to any obligation to retain records of a transaction.

Children

These apps are productivity tools intended for a general audience. They are not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If the apps ever gain a feature that changes how data is handled — for example an optional cloud upload — this page will be updated before that feature ships, and the "last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
