ScreenFlowy Snap or iShot: which should you choose?

iShot is an all-in-one Mac screenshot tool with screenshots, scrolling capture, pinned screenshots, screen recording and OCR. It’s a free download with in-app subscriptions, and iShot Pro is available as a one-time $12.99. ScreenFlowy Snap is completely free, with no in-app purchases of any kind: every shot arrives with a wallpaper background, rounded corners and a shadow already set, sensitive details such as email addresses and phone numbers can be covered automatically, and text recognition is free too. If you want a screenshot tool that’s free, good-looking and redacts automatically, choose Snap; if you’re still on an Intel Mac or an older version of macOS, you can choose iShot.

Price: completely free, or a subscription

ScreenFlowy Snap is completely free: no in-app purchases, no subscription, no account to sign up for, and every feature ready to use, text recognition and scrolling capture included.

iShot is a free download with in-app subscriptions, and iShot Pro is a one-time $12.99.

Styling: wallpaper backgrounds, or corners and shadows

Snap puts styling first: when a shot opens, its wallpaper background, padding, rounded corners and shadow are already set, each one a slider away. Save the whole look as a preset, and switch ratios and popular social media sizes in one click.

iShot can add rounded corners and a shadow to screenshots automatically, with adjustable shadow colour and size, and can put a shot in a Mac device frame.

Redaction and privacy

Both can redact by hand. Snap can also read the text in the image and automatically cover email addresses, links, phone numbers, ID and card numbers, and all kinds of keys and tokens. Automatic detection can miss text that is blurry or very short, so look the image over before you share it. Snap never goes online: capture, text recognition, redaction and export all happen on your Mac.
