ScreenFlowy Snap or Xnip: which should you choose?
Xnip is a long-standing Mac screenshot tool that takes scrolling captures, annotates and recognises text, all fully offline. It’s a free download, but scrolling captures in the free version carry a watermark; a yearly Pro subscription and a one-time watermark removal are available as in-app purchases. ScreenFlowy Snap is completely free, with no in-app purchases and no watermark on scrolling captures: every shot arrives with a wallpaper background, rounded corners and a shadow already set, sensitive details can be covered automatically, and social media sizes are one click away. If you want a screenshot tool that’s free, good-looking and redacts automatically, choose Snap; if you’re still on macOS 13, you can choose Xnip.

Price: completely free, or pay to remove the watermark
ScreenFlowy Snap is completely free: no in-app purchases, and no watermark on scrolling captures or any other export.
Xnip is a free download, and scrolling captures in the free version carry a watermark; a yearly Pro subscription and a one-time watermark removal are available as in-app purchases.
Styling
When a Snap screenshot opens, its wallpaper background, padding, rounded corners and shadow are already set, each one a slider away, and the whole look can be saved as a preset. Ratios and popular social media sizes switch in one click, and every image can carry your name. Xnip’s window captures keep the macOS system shadow.
Redaction and privacy
Both run fully offline. Besides redacting by hand, Snap can find email addresses, links, phone numbers, ID and card numbers, and all kinds of keys in the image and cover them automatically. Automatic detection can miss text that is blurry or very short, so look the image over before you share it.
