How to show viewers where you click and which keys you press

Step by step

   Record as usual

   Keep Capture cursor by default on in Settings › Device (it is, unless you turned it off), then record your screen. The cursor and your clicks are kept as data of their own rather than burned into the picture.

   The first time you record, ScreenFlowy asks to monitor the keyboard so it can show your shortcuts. Click Allow, turn ScreenFlowy on under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, then quit and reopen it before you record.

   Pick a cursor

   In the editor, open the Cursor tool. Under Cursor Style, choose from System, Arrow, Gestures or More, eight styles in each; More even holds a magnifying glass that enlarges whatever it passes over. Then drag Cursor Size until the pointer reads clearly, even on a phone.

   Make clicks visible

   Under Click Effect, choose Flash, Spread or Fireworks and set its Opacity and Size; Flash and Spread take a colour too.

   Let clicks be heard

   Turn on Cursor Click Sound, pick Tap, Crisp or Mechanical, and set its Volume. The click sound is exported with the video.

   Hide the cursor when it rests

   Turn on Auto-hide cursor when idle and set the Hide Delay: when the mouse stops, the cursor hides itself, and it is back a moment before the mouse moves again. To leave the pointer out of the whole video, turn off Show Cursor.

   Show your shortcuts

   Open the Shortcuts tool. Show shortcuts is already on for a take that recorded your keys; choose the Font Color and Background Color, set the Background Opacity and Size, and pick one of nine spots in Position.

Which keys appear

Only shortcuts: a key pressed together with ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃. Ordinary typing never turns into a keycap, not even capitals typed with Shift.

Smooth, steady movement

ScreenFlowy smooths the path of the recorded pointer, so it glides from point to point instead of jumping. For movement with a sense of speed, turn up Cursor Motion Blur in the Animation tool.

If no shortcuts appear

• Check that ScreenFlowy is on under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, then quit and reopen it. A take recorded before you allowed it has no keystrokes to show.
• Plain keys and Shift combinations are left out on purpose: press the shortcut with ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃.
